Table in MS-Word (Table Insertion and Borders)
Table in MS-Word (Part - 1)
(Table Insertion and Borders)
Table Insertion
To insert a table in MS-Word there is an option in Insert Menu of Table. When we click on the Table Tab we get a Design of Table in which we can select number of rows and columns we want in our table. If we are not sure of the number of rows and columns in our table than we can select any numbers that can be increased or decreased later on.
Below there is written Insert Table... (Alt + N + T + I) when you click on this you get a new window in front of you where you can manually feed the number of rows and columns.
Table Borders
To give border lines to your table there is the option in Home given as Border (Alt + H + B).
In this we have
Border (Bottom/Top/Left/Right): This is given to give a border line to the line (Bottom/Top/Left/Right) of cell (box) where the cursor is or a line (Bottom/Top/Left/Right) to the selected table portion. Suppose I am at 1 cell and click on Bottom border than the line will appear on the bottom of the 1 cell only. If I select the first four cells (2 columns and 2 rows) and click on the left border than the line will appear only on the left most part of table only not in between.
The lines above are visible because View Gridlines is on. To see gridlines the option is given in border drop down in home and also in layout menu which appears when we insert a table. Shortcut to switch view gridlines on/off is Alt + JL + TG.
No Border: It is used to remove all the lines defined from the selected table or a portion of the table.
All Borders: This is used to given border lines to the whole table (internal and external lines).
Outside Borders: This gives border lines only to the outer lines of the selected table.
Inside Borders: This gives border lines to the inside lines of the selected table.
Inside Horizontal Border: This gives border lines to all the horizontal lines selected in a table.
Inside Vertical Border: This gives border lines to all the vertical lines selected in a table.
Diagonal Down Border: This gives diagonal lines downwards to a selected cell or cells.
Diagonal Up Border: This gives diagonal lines upwards to a selected cell or cells.
Horizontal Line: This makes a horizontal line inside a cell. It will make this line only to the first cell if more than one cell is selected.
