Tally - Company Info.

(Select, Backup & Restore)

Select Company - When we open Tally, if our company already exist than we have to select the company. For this we have to Press S or click on Select Company. Here we get window given below.

Where we get a list of companies in our computer in the default directory/ path. If we have stored our company in some other drive we can give it in the path by pressing Shift + Tab (this is used to move backward within options). If we have more than one company with same name than we have to remember the number of our company which is given in front of it's name.

Backup: Backing up is saving your company in some other drive, which can be taken to other computer or can be kept at some other drive in same computer. You should know the exact location of the data which you want to take the backup of. For this when we click on backup we get

Source is the place from where we have to pick our company, here we can give path where our file is stored.

Destination is the place where we want to store our data. As in above case it is showing g:\ that is G drive which is probably a pen drive.

Under Name of Company we select a particular company or a group of companies which we want to take backup of.

Once you select a company or a group of companies you have to select End of list to stop selecting companies & select Accept to take Backup

Restore: Restoring means retrieving your data from the place where you have taken backup. Here your data can be at any place in some external drive or in the same drive in which you are working.

Here is destination you have to choose where you want to restore the data. And in source you have to define the path where your backup is stored.

In above figure you can see I have changed both source and destination. They are not same as given in the figure of backup. Here destination is almost same as source in backup. The only difference is data & b folder. Here backup has been taken from the folder data and the which we are restoring is in folder b

Source is not directly g:\ but it is g:\tally backup. that means tally backup is a folder in drive g, in which data has been backed up. Here we get option of selecting all or few of the companies as be get in backup. Once we have done selection we have to end the list and accept.

Once accepted all the selected companies will be retrieved to your desired place.
